BACCN & IACCN
Association of British and Irish Critical Care Nurses joint conference
Welcoming new visitors to our city and delivering economic impact by working collaboratively is what we do best. The British Association of Critical Care Nurses and Irish Association of Critical Care Nurses harnessed the power of partnership working recently too when they hosted a joint annual conference at ICC Belfast.

After two years of virtual conferences, almost 500 delegates from the British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN) and Irish Association of Critical Care Nurses (IACCN) convened in Belfast for a two-day event focusing on the theme of ‘Critical Care Across the World: Breaking Down Barriers’.
Belfast’s unique position as part of the UK located on the island of Ireland was ideal for international collaboration and knowledge sharing between IACCN and BACCN members. With three nearby airports, and convenient rail, road and ferry access, a short journey was all it took for delegates to arrive and start experiencing the city’s world-renowned hospitality and craic.
ICC Belfast’s flexible Riverside spaces were set up for a wide range of sessions. Among these was an exhibition, a gala dinner and keynote address. Entries to a BACCN Members Dragons’ Den which offered a chance to win funding towards research or quality improvement projects were also judged, providing the opportunity for specialist developments within the field of Critical Care to be shared and celebrated with peers.
If you could replicate your venue plus staff across every city in the UK that would be excellent. Although we fully expected everything to be brilliant…it was next level.

A busy conference schedule was complemented by a carefully curated social programme to ensure a perfect balance of academic and social benefits for all in attendance. Demand from the BACCN and IACCN members for the inimitable buzz of an in-person event was evident too with attendance figures up on original forecasts by 18%.
BACCN and IACCN were proactive in managing the environmental impact of their event. Event organisers across all industries recognise the increasing importance of responsible planning and leaving a positive legacy in destinations they choose to host in. Sustainability was considered at all stages of the BACCN/IACCN conference. This included a donation pledge of £2 for every registered delegate to Trees on the Land, a cross-border initiative working to establish young native trees across the island of Ireland.
There aren’t many venues like this where all the departments work so closely together. It made our lives a lot easier and the delegate feedback regarding the venue has been very positive on how the event was delivered.
