BMFMS conference “vital to advancing women’s health”
The British Maternal & Fetal Medicine Society (BMFMS) Conference will take place at ICC Belfast in May.

The British Maternal & Fetal Medicine Society (BMFMS) Annual Conference is set to take place at ICC Belfast for the first time, from 8-9 May 2025.
The event will bring together leading experts in maternal and fetal medicine for two days of cutting-edge research presentations, topical discussions and networking opportunities, as well as an interactive simulation suite showcasing specialist skills and equipment.
The BMFMS is dedicated to improving the standard of pregnancy care through training and education, promoting and funding research and spotlighting key issues in pregnancy care. Just this month, the BMFMS called on the UK Government to accelerate action on women’s health to improve standards of pregnancy care.
Dr Emma Ferriman, Consultant Obstetrician, Fetal Medicine Specialist, and President of BMFMS explained the importance of progress in this branch of medicine. She said:
“Conferences like BMFMS are vital to advancing women’s health. Right now, women across the UK are facing some of the longest NHS waits, with many suffering for months or even years with conditions that impact their health, wellbeing, and ability to fully participate in society.
Our conference is a key opportunity to ensure that maternal and fetal medicine remains a central focus in national policy and guidance.
"We encourage everyone in the field to join us in Belfast to collaborate, share knowledge, and drive meaningful change.”
Dr Fionnuala Mone, Lecturer and Consultant in Fetal Medicine at Queen’s University Belfast and BMFMS Scientific Representative, commented:
“I’m absolutely delighted to welcome the BMFMS Annual Conference to Belfast for the first time. The conference will highlight the latest advancements in fetal medicine, prenatal genomics, next-generation sequencing, screening, fetal therapy, and maternal medicine.
“We’ve designed the 2025 conference programme to be engaging and relevant, particularly for trainees and those early in their careers.
BMFMS is committed to ensuring this conference is a valuable learning and networking experience for medical students, O&G trainees, locally-employed doctors, and MFM subspecialty trainees.
“We’re also excited to showcase the incredible research and clinical expertise here in Northern Ireland as part of this. The BMFMS conference is an important opportunity for subspecialists right across the UK to come together and build valuable connections that will last throughout their career.”
Early Bird Registration is available until 28 March 2025. Secure your place today here.
This conference is supported by the Belfast and Northern Ireland conference subvention scheme funded by Belfast City Council and Tourism NI, and administered by Visit Belfast.
